A selection of the latest Edmonton Oilers news and blog posts.
Ex-Oilers head coach Todd McLellan gladly jumps back in saddle with L.A. Kings He was getting paid the remainder of his $3-million salary for the 2018-19 season and another $3 million this season, whether he coached or not, but after 806 games behind the bench, he wasn't a good couch-sitter.
Ken Holland Staying On With Detroit Is Good News For The Oilers Bizarre trades, and wacky signings. Want to give Stephen Weiss 25 million dollars for five years? Weiss had an injury filled two year campaign for the Wings, only to be bought out. Trading a first round pick and a prospect to Tampa Bay for Kyle Quincey?
Can Edmonton Oilers afford to slow-play Evan Bouchard? Can they afford not to? Lots of feedback and some pushback to my previous post in which I noted how the Edmonton Oilers played their last 25 games in a lost season without a single Entry Level Contract anywhere on their active roster.
At The Top It goes without saying we're not going to get a look at CEO Bob Nicholson's short list of candidates to take over as general manager of the Edmonton Oilers. I'm just as interested to know how many potential candidates out there have Edmonton on top of their short list of destinations.
Should the Edmonton Oilers Consider Kris Letang? Eval; Rutherford could be speaking about any number of players but among the speculated names, Kris Letang should stick out for Edmonton Oilers fans. eval; Related: NHL Rumors: Cooper, Canucks, Penguins, More. The reality is, Letang shouldn't get traded.
Does Steve Yzerman hiring in Detroit make Edmonton a more or less likely landing spot for Ken Holland? Later today, the Detroit Red Wings will welcome home Steve Yzerman as their new General Manager. While no doubt some Oilers fans were hoping that Stevie Y would consider bringing his act to Edmonton that was never, ever in the cards.
Should The Edmonton Oilers Trade Their First-Round Pick? Should the Oilers trade their first round pick? As discussed in my last piece, there are several quality players available at number 8 in the draft. However, this is a franchise that is running out of time and may not have the patience to wait for another young prospect to develop.
GM SEARCH: Pros and Cons As Bob Nicholson continues one of the longest GM searches in the NHL history I decided to take a look at the pros and cons for a manager in the mix for the Oilers gig. Duh! The Oilers only have ONE thing that other teams don't, but it's a big one.
Friday Morning Hot Links Blues take over series against Jets, Sharks bite back.
Keeping an eye on Seattle This coming offseason is expected to be a busy one around Edmonton. Once a new GM is hired, expect the trade rumours around the team to really heat up. There's no doubt that the organization's goal is to be a playoff team next year and for that to happen they will likely have to be active on the trade market.
Evan Bouchard To Join Bakersfield Condors For Playoff Run 2018 first round selection is movin’ on up with the Condors.
Oilers assign Evan Bouchard to the Bakersfield Condors According to the Bakersfield Condors' official Twitter account, the Oilers have assigned Evan Bouchard to the AHL Condors where he will join them for their playoff run that kicks off tomorrow night in Colorado. It's been a wild season for the former 10th overall pick.
Morning T: Thanks, Ebs. And other NHL playoff musings Paying some of the highest ticket prices in the NHL to watch one of the highest payrolls in the NHL miss the playoffs every year has made for some frustrating springs in Edmonton. The last thing the fans need is insult added to the injury. So, thanks a lot, Jordan Eberle.
Oilersnation Radio Episode 33 - Happy Connorversary, Cooom is a traitor, and the NHL playoffs Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the 33rd episode of the award winning Oilersnation Radio. As I'm sure you know, it's the only podcast that you'll ever need to plug into your earholes, especially if you love the Edmonton Oilers.
Inside the Nation - A team without McDavid, Koskinen problems, and Bouchard playing in Bakersfield Happy Connorversary everybody! Dustin Nielson is back in the mix with a special edition of Inside the Nation today. He kicks off the show by looking back at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and speculates what would have happened if we NEVER won the lottery during that special, special day.
1 Seeds Losing: Flames / Lightning Could Set Record The unpredictability of the NHL playoffs is what makes it so great. How many people predicted the Columbus Blue Jackets would defeat the Tampa Bay Lighting? Very few, and I suspect none had them winning in four games over the 62-win Lightning.
Happy 4th Connorversary everybody Can you believe it's been four years since the Oilers summoned the dark Gord to give them the luck needed to win the Connor McDavid lottery? It was on this day, back in 2015, that Bill Daly flipped over the golden ticket, showing the Oilers logo as the future home of Connor McDavid.
Oil Kings set to go up against powerhouse from Prince Albert After a few days of waiting around, the Edmonton Oil Kings finally found out that their path to the Western Hockey League finals will run through Prince Albert. The Oil Kings will be a rested group compared to Prince Albert.
JONES: Krueger on Oilers GM job: 'That's a chapter you just can't reopen' Ralph Krueger may be the best man available for the job but the former head coach of the Edmonton Oilers, who was fired over Skype by then-general manager Craig McTavish, is not interested.
Oilers can clear money if they get creative Baggedmilk dug into whether the Oilers can clear salary or not on Monday. He outlined movable and anchor contracts. It will be difficult. The Oilers can move salary, but only if they get creative. The organization needs to systematically change how they think and operate if they want to get out of salary-cap jail.
Rob Vanstone: Twenty years later, there's nobody greater than Wayne Gretzky Twenty years after retiring as a player, Wayne Gretzky is still the greatest name in hockey — and that will never change.
Leon Draisaitl Nominated For King Clancy Award 50 goal scorer is nominated for contributions both on and off ice.
Jordan Eberle has figured out NHL playoffs after rocky start with Oilers Semi-old NHL dogs can learn new tricks in the playoffs. So maybe we should have expected Jordan Eberle, who turns 29 next month, to not roll over in his second playoff spring after not getting a sniff in his previous 13 post-season games here two years ago.
Oilers are Broken: What needs Fixing? Bob Nicholson has already interviewed a handful of candidates for the vacant GM job, with plans to talk to a few more men this month. Hiring a new GM is an important step for the Oilers, but one person will not fix all that ails them. I believe the Oilers need to fix their off-ice issues as much as they need to improve their on-ice performance.
